Why Doesn’t Groovy Time Speech Take Insurance?
- Working with insurance is time consuming and Groovy Time Speech would much rather spend time doing therapy and building clinical skills.
- By not taking insurance there is more freedom to target treatment plans according to family needs and goals rather than a third-party definition of medical necessity. The frequency and duration of services, interventions provided, and other aspects of treatment are based on the SLP’s expertise and family preferences, not what a plan will cover.
- Being private pay is more transparent for both your family and mine. You know exactly what each session is going to cost and can budget for it and I know, based on how many sessions I do, how much money is coming in, so I can budget in my life.
- For an insurance company to pay for services, they require a diagnosis. Some families prefer not to have a medical diagnosis (label) that will remain on their child’s permanent health record. These labels will follow children through adulthood in school, military, federal jobs, security clearances, applying for life insurance, etc…
- Insurance companies can request client session notes at any point in time. Confidentiality with your insurance is waived when you request, they pay for services. Many families are not comfortable sharing this information.
